Two tools for one question: when is it safe to plant?
The planting calendar answers with your own location and the current forecast. The frost-date lookup answers with the two dates a season is counted from, the last spring freeze and the first autumn freeze. Both are free, neither asks you to sign up, and both print the answer in the page.
Planting Calendar
Add a location and get the crops that are ready to start, transplant, or sow now, with the next step for each one.
- What can I start or transplant this week?
- How much season is left before the first freeze?
- What comes next for a crop I already started?
Frost Dates by ZIP
Look up a ZIP code for its USDA hardiness zone, the nearest NOAA station with a long record, and the freeze dates that station measured.
- When is the last spring freeze where I garden?
- Which zone am I in, and which station does the answer come from?
- How far does that date move across my state?
Where the answers come from
The calendar reads live weather from Open-Meteo and U.S. alerts from NOAA/NWS when they are available. The frost lookup reads NOAA/NCEI 1991-2020 freeze records and the USDA 2023 Plant Hardiness Zone Map, and every answer names the station it came from, its distance, and its years of record.
